MENTHI KURA PAPPU / METHI KA DAL - Rayalaseema Village Style

Know about the Recipe : 
Pappu / Dal is a daily cooked recipe in every household in Telugu households. Even though Dal is a very famous dish all over India, we Telugu people especially in our Rayalaseema, there is no lunch / dinner without this delicious Pappu. Dal is cooked in different styles in different states. Today I am cooking this authentic, traditional, delicious dal in Rayalaseema village style "MENTHI KURA PAPPU / METHI KA DAL" using Tur Dal and fresh methi leaves / fenugreek leaves. This style of Pappu is cooked in my home daily.

Now let me start my cooking.. Please follow it.. try it.. cook it.. and enjoy the superb taste of  Menthi Kura Pappu with hot steamed rice, dollop of ghee and little mango pickle... this is the best and happiest meal... Enjoy.. Happy Cooking...!

INGREDIENTS : 
1 cup Tur Dal
1 cup Onion
1 cup Tomato
Tamarind (lemon sized)
1 cup Fresh Methi leaves
3 cups Water
1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
Rock Salt to taste

For Tadka / Tempering : 
1 tbsp Oil
5-6 Crushed Garlic Cloves
1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
1/4 tsp Jeera
1/2 tsp Urad Dal
1/2 tsp Chana Dal
1 Dried Red Chilli
Coriander leaves
Curry leaves

METHOD : 
1) Take a cup of Tur Dal, wash it once and add to Pressure Cooker.
2) Add onion, tomato, tamarind, fresh methi leaves, water, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and mix once.
3) Close the lid and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
4) Open the lid, add rock salt to taste.
5) Mash dal using a traditional Dal kneader. 
6) Dish out and keep aside.
7) Now start preparing Tadka. 
8) Add crushed garlic to hot oil.
9) Add mustard seeds, jeera, urad dal, chana dal, dried red chilli and saute.
10) Now few coriander leaves and curry leaves and saute well.
11) Add this tadka to Dal and mix well.
12) Traditional, authentic, tasty Rayalaseema style "Menthi Kura Pappu" is ready to taste now.
