TAWA PULAO - Delicious Mumbai Street Food

Even though the cuisines are different, in South India, especially in Telugu states, the regular food is mainly rice based. Our daily food routine includes plain rice and other varieties of rice. This is the best satisfying food for all of us. We usually  to prepare different styles of rice dishes like Pulihora, Fried rice, Pulao, Biryani and so...

Today I am giving you all a wonderful and quick rice treat by sharing an easy rice recipe "TAWA PULAO". Tawa Pulao is a very famous Mumbai street food, prepared quickly with left over / cooked rice with all our favourite vegetables seasoned with Pavbhaji masala, butter and lemon juice. I have made the habit of tasting this super flavour of Mumbai whenever I visit Mumbai for material purchases for my boutique. First time I have tasted this authentic tasty Tawa Pulao near Shivsena Party office in Mumbai on my way for shopping. As this dish is prepared on Tawa, it is called Tawa Pulao. It is the Mumbai style of making fried rice.

Coming to the recipe... I have sauted onions and cooked all the veggies like green peas, carrot, potato, french beans, capsicum in hot oil for  minutes and added all masalas like garam masala, jeera masala, dhaniya powder and pavbhaji masala along with red chilly powder and salt to taste and cooked for 5 more minutes by adding water. Later added cooked rice / left over rice, tossed till all the mixture and flavours blends well with the rice. Usually in Maharashtrians use steamed rice. But I have used regular cooked rice. The magic behind the extraordinary flavour of Tawa Pulao is Pavbhaji masala, a traditional Maharashtra spice mix.

INGREDIENTS :
1 cup Cooked Rice
2 ladles Oil
Green Peas
Carrot
French Beans
Capsicum
Potato
1 Green Chilly
1 cup Tomato
1/2 tsp Ginger+Garlic Paste
1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
1/2 tsp Red Chilly Powder
3/4 tsp Garam Masala
3/4 tsp Dhaniya Powder
3/4 tsp Pavbhaji Masala
1/2 tsp Jeera Powder
Salt to taste
Little water
1/4 tsp Butter
Coriander leaves
1/2 Lemon Juice

METHOD :
1) In a pan, add Oil and saute onions.
2) Add all fresh vegetables, green chilly and salt. Cook for 5 min. by closing the lid.
3) Then add tomatoes, ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chilly powder.
4) Add garam masala, dhaniya powder, pavbhaji masala and jeera powder and mix well.
5) Add little water and cook for 5 minutes again by closing the lid.
6) Add little butter, cooked rice and mix well and toss till all the mixture nicely blends with the rice.
7) Add coriander leaves and lemon juice, mix well and dishout.
8) Tastes awesome when served hot.
9) Raita / curd chutney / Tomato ketchup is the best combination for this tasty, delicious TAWA PULAO.
